NuvaRing

Contraception

The NuvaRing is a small, flexible ring inserted into the vagina to prevent pregnancy. It stays in place for 3 weeks. The NuvaRing slowly releases hormones that will prevent ovulation. Approximately 9 in 100 women get pregnant while using this method.

Pros of NuvaRing

  • It is good if you forget to take pills
  • It is easy to use.
  • It can be used during sex, exercise and while using tampons.
  • It is easy to check if it is there.
  • It is good for women who want a period each month.

Cons of NuvaRing

  • You have to remember when to remove the ring and when to place a new one.
  • It has a small chance of being expelled especially during intercourse, when removing a tampon or with straining during a bowel movement.
  • Some women say they can feel the ring, although it is not painful or uncomfortable.
